Small Business Website – 5 Common Objections Debunked
When it comes to having a small business website, we’ve heard plenty of arguments against needing one. While you might feel that you don’t need one for your business to succeed, the reality is that you could be missing out on a substantial proportion of customers if you chose not to have an online presence. With this in mind, we’ve created a list of some of the most common objections that we hear versus reasons why we think you need one.
Objection # 1 – I don’t have the budget for a small business website cost
This is the most common reason we hear from business owners as to why they feel they shouldn’t have a website.
However, having a website is your #1 marketing asset! Think of it as an effective advertising tool that works around the clock to drive business to your door. Your physical business can’t be open 24/7 but your website is. Remember, marketing is the key to bringing in a constant stream of new customers. If you’re worried about a small business website cost, don’t be. It doesn’t have to expensive and fancy. What’s important is that it exists so that popular search engines can find it and send potential customers your way.
Objection #2 – I already have enough business, I don’t need anymore
We’re pleased to hear it! But while that’s all well and good, have you ever thought that maybe your business needs to be online for reasons other than bringing in new customers?
There is so much more a website can do to boost your business without adding more customers. For example, one survey in America showed that 83% of people used a small business website to look up locations, hours or operation and directions on their smartphones. A good, well-designed small business website should be able to answer important questions straight away with the bonus that it frees you up answering those questions over the phone.
What’s more, while you may have more customers that you need right now, who knows what the next decade will bring? It’s a good idea to get your foot in the digital door now should you need more business in the years to come.
Objection # 3 – My customers don’t really use computers
OK sure. But what you might be forgetting is that people don’t just use desktop computers to search for products or services anymore. People now browse websites, apps and social media mostly on their mobile devices. In fact, in the UK, statistics show that 85% of people own and use smartphones. With the number of mobile website traffic steadily growing each year, it makes sense to have an online presence.
Objection # 4 – I don’t sell products online, so I don’t need a website
This is another big misconception that we hear from many people. The truth is, that just because you don’t sell products online, you still need a website. Potential customers still need to find your business and learn of the services you do offer, in order to buy from you. Most of our clients don’t have E-commerce businesses yet will still see worthwhile revenue growth from having a good online presence.
Objection # 5 – I know a guy who can make me a website for free
While that might be true, there is a lot of extra work that goes in to creating a successful small business website that works to increase your income. For example, your website would need to be properly SEO optimised with a responsive design, have file compression and schema mark-up etc. What’s more, different businesses have different standards. A health service website will need completely different components to a site within the HVAC industry.
